As they prepared for the oncoming blitz known as the free agency period, the Rams made a last-minute attempt to keep one of their own from reaching the market.
The Rams’ front office had discussions Thursday night with the agent for Ron Bartell in an effort to re-sign the 27-year-old cornerback to a long-term deal that will keep him in St. Louis. But Bartell won’t come cheap after a breakout fourth season in which he had a career-high 20 pass breakups, intercepted three passes, and had an NFC West-low 60.2 passer rating on balls thrown his way.
From a Rams negotiating standpoint, matters weren’t helped when Houston placed the franchise tag on Dunta Robinson, and Kelvin Hayden (Indianapolis) and Nnamdi Asomugha (Oakland) signed lucrative contracts to remain with their teams. That suddenly made Bartell one of the prettiest corners at the dance in terms of potential free agents, along with Pittsburgh’s Bryant McFadden, Washington’s DeAngelo Hall and Tampa Bay’s Phillip Bucha

Longtime Austin artist Jaime Cervantes create eye-catching concert posters. Their work can be seen in the recent Chronicle Books publication “The Art of Modern Rock”. Jaime also was the featured artist on the website promoting the Austin History Center’s 2004 exhibit “Artists Among Us : Poster Art in Austin.”
